4A bbq today was surprisingly successful beyond my expectations! ok, at first things weren't looking too good. i left home at 1pm cos the bbq wholesale centre gave their ETA as anytime between 2-4pm (uncertainty of 2h -.-), but as usual my time estimation was way off and i arrived at 1.30pm. killed some time at amk library first, listening to music (on a random note, i think my earphones are "losing steam" or something? can barely hear anything anymore) and reading a dummy's guide to quantum mechanics which i found there to "prepare" for H3. damn cheem sia, no matter how many times i try to go through that crap i can never seem to fully absorb it. i know about planck's solution to the ultra-violet catastrophe, einstein's explanation of photoelectricity, broigle's (is that how you spell his name?) stationary wave electrons, schroedinger's cat etc etc, but somehow i just cant see the main learning points from all these seperate discoveries and how they link to each other. sian, hope things become clearer once H3 actually starts.
ok, back on topic: the food came at around 2.30pm, so from then until 4pm i was just stoning at the bbq pit (in hindsight, im amazed at my own patience) until zhaoming and melvin's mom came. afterwards, zhaoming and i struggled to start the fire, with me making some idiotic elementary-level mistakes (note to self: bring a lighter to the next bbq), but at least we managed to make a little progress. well, it was alex, ziwei and yefeng to the rescue, cos they actually knew what they were doing around the fire. also, the sky looked very foreboding at around 4.30pm, and we were already scouting for a sheltered area for our wet-weather plan, but in the end the weather turned out to be pleasantly cool, aka perfect :)
im surprised by how many of us turned up. myself, zhaoming, yenjin, siyun, melissa, michelle, shihqian, yefeng, ziwei, alex, clarence, cheryl su, kahming, ms loi, bryan; an unprecedented number of people! and i find it such a magical thing that we all managed to hit it off so well after 7 years splitting up, it almost seemed like we meet up every week or something. recalling all the dumb things we did, gossiping about tame primary school scandals, and laughing about it throughout, it was great.
for nostalgia's sake, here's 4A 2002:
in case you're wondering, im in the top row, second from the right. honestly, i cant remember why i seem to be punching melvin.
7 years donw the road, the magic is still in the air.
